straight talk lg l96g The Straight Talk LG Optimus Ultimate is the latest in the long Optimus line.  This is an Android 4.0 GSM 3g phone that will be activated with either AT&T or TMobile. This means, Verizon will not be used. The highlight on this phone is basically the large screen. If I am not mistaken, this is the largest screened Optimus offered by Straight Talk to date. It’s definitely the largest screened phone offered at this time by Straight Talk that costs less than $300. In fact, this phone will set you back approximately $249 which is a great deal for such a large screened phone. Check LG Ultimate Availability

The first thing to note on this phone is that it is not small! The phone measures 4.94″ in height, 2.63″ in width and .35″ in thickness. As you can see, it is quite tall. That said, it’s fairly slim compared to some of the lower end phones which can measure around .50″ in thickness. As you would expect, the screen is pretty large as well measuring around 4.35″ diagonally.  This one is pretty light weight, weighing in at approximately  Size aside, this is a pretty good looking phone. First off, you got a 3 button Android layout at the bottom of the phone. The center button is a standard push button type while the buttons to the left and right are touch type buttons. Be aware that this is not a flashy phone by any means. The body is all plastic as is the screen and there is very little by way of decorative trims and such.

As far as specs go, the phone is fairly standard. You could consider this one a mid grade device. The processor is 1ghz so it’s plenty fast.  Total built in memory storage available for usage is approximately 2.5gb out of the box.  The phone does come with a preinstalled 4gb sd card so you get more memory there.  The camera on this is pretty good at 5mp and you do get a front facing camera as well.

On the Android side of things, this is an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone so  it does come with one of the latest Android systems. In fact, this one comes with 4.0.3 to be exact so it’s just 1 version back from the latest Jelly Bean OS. As usual with Straight Talk, you get access to all of the Android apps. This includes the ability to purchase and download all apps in the Google Play store.  It also comes with fully functioning Youtube, Google Maps and Navigation. This being android Ice Cream Sandwich, performance is excellent. This one has no problems utilizing all apps.

My conclusion is that this phone is well worth the money. It’s got nice specs, performance is great and if you like large screened phones, you aren’t going to find one with an equivalent screen at a lower price on Straight Talk.  Be aware that this phone is GSM so it will be activated with either AT&T or TMobile depending on your area.  As with all other Straight Talk Androids, this one will require you purchase the unlimited card.
